Unsuspecting tourists caught by local laws against buying counterfeits

A recent case of a tourist fined €1,000 for buying a fake Louis Vuitton bag in Venice highlights the need to be aware of local anti-counterfeiting laws.

She bought the bag on a beach near Jesolo, knowing that it was counterfeit, but was shocked to be arrested and fined - in fact the local authorities could have pressed for a fine of up to €10,000.

Recommendation
British tourists should not buy counterfeit goods abroad or, at least, should check local laws before doing so.
